[What is Maki-e?] Maki-e is a traditional Japanese craft unique to Japan, passed down since the Heian period. It involves drawing a design with lacquer, sprinkling gold or silver powder before the lacquer dries, and after it dries, applying lacquer to the design and polishing it to finish.
