【What is Makie?】
Makie is a traditional Japanese craft that originated in the Heian period. It involves drawing patterns with lacquer, sprinkling gold or silver powder onto the wet lacquer, and then, once dry, applying more lacquer over the patterns and polishing them. A single makie piece requires an astonishing number of steps and a great deal of time to complete.
