Blue & white regimental stripe cufflinks

"Stripes" have been a traditional necktie pattern since around the 17th century. At the time, the pattern of the tie indicated which regiment the wearer belonged to.

While "regimental stripe" is the correct term for patterns flowing from left to right, and "club stripe" for patterns flowing from right to left, somehow both directions have come to be called "regimental stripe."

The use of regimental stripe ties as part of school or club uniforms began then, and it has now become a common pattern for neckties.
