Overlapping cherry blossoms are designed in gold on takase shells that shimmer and glow like light shining through depending on the angle. This is depicted using hiramaki-e (a technique where a design is drawn with lacquer, gold or silver powder is sprinkled on before it dries completely, and after it dries, lacquer is applied over the design and polished).
