Cloud patterns are designed in gold on luminous trochus shells, which shimmer and reflect light at different angles. This is done using the *hira-makie* technique (a method in which a design is drawn with lacquer, gold or silver powder is sprinkled on before it dries completely, and then, once dry, lacquer is applied over the design and polished).

This would make a wonderful gift for those who love Japan, or for international recipients.
