【What is Makie?】
Makie is a traditional Japanese craft unique to Japan, passed down since the Heian period. It involves drawing patterns with lacquer, sprinkling gold or silver powder before the lacquer dries completely, and then applying lacquer over the patterned areas after they dry, followed by polishing to finish. It takes an astonishing number of steps and time to complete a single piece of makie.
